23.08.26Harmonic Elastic explores the music this term might describe; an ongoing experiment in expressing what it might do and become with the world.
It often tends towards the very physical, playful, and percussive sounds of free jazz and fourth world, both forms that paint alternative sonic futures. These frequently infold melody and rhythm, reconnecting voices with bodies to render sound felt as the physical force it is.
The visceral, utopian inflection is a crucial component of the music. As such, the Afro-futurist visions of Detroit techno and the Hardcore Continuum were both key in developing these sounds, spawning the plethora of tangential electronic musics we now know.
As such, the show is a search for music where form arises from function; where a genuine spirit of creative curiosity and risk has driven the production processes. This combination of vivid imagining and technological experimentation continues the rich legacy of expressing alternative futures, led always by the desire to imagine and articulate what could be.
