01.06.26Fields explores emotional connections to places through field recordings and music. For this episode, SE London-based DJ and producer Hostmigrate joins the show to take us along a tour of Epping Forrest.
It is at once a sanctuary from the megacity it borders and impinged by the endless motion of modern life. Its ancient woodlands are a haven for wildlife and wanderers, soundtracked by a constant chorus of birdsong - but just as the forest is intersected by rivers and hidden paths, so too is it cut up by heaving roads, and pressed from above by air traffic. This guest episode channels the forest's immeasurable impact on the people around it and their impact on it in turn, a conversation with a land that has seen more than any of us and given more than we could hope to match. Split into a day and night side, the tracks here mirror a journey through the forest and the forest's composition, with some standing alone in the clearing, while others sink into the overgrowth and each other. It's a love letter to getting lost and finding the path again.
Hostmigrate is a DJ and producer with an expansive approach to live performance, music technology, and genre collision. His music is inspired by the networks that connect us and the stories we weave through them, incorporating analog synthesis, club rhythms, intricate sound design, and field recording. His album 'On Principle' was released in 2024, with a remix pack following in 2025.
